Intel Readies Dual-Core Atom Processor for Netbooks

From X-bit Labs: Intel Corp. is reportedly preparing a dual-core Atom microprocessor for netbooks in a bid to further improve performance of ultra low-cost personal computers and improve competitive position on the market.

According to PCInpact, Intel plans to release N500 microprocessor, which will likely be based on Pineview design, will have an integrated memory controller as well as built-in graphics core. The chip will feature two cores along with Hyper-Threading technology. Its clock-speed and thermal design power are not known, unfortunately.

At present Intel only ships Atom D500 dual-core processor with 13W power consumption and 1.66GHz clock-speed for nettops, but considering the fact that some makers used it for netbooks too as there is demand for higher-performance ULCPCs, it is logical for Intel to offer a dual-core for mobile computers “officially”.
