Google's Nexus One is Officially Dead

From DailyTech: Google launched its branded smartphone in January of 2010 and it quickly became “the” Android device to beat. The Nexus One came out the gates with guns blazing courtesy of a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 480x800 AMOLED display, and Android 2.1.

However, it's now time for the Nexus One to say its goodbyes -- Google is now stating that the phone is no longer available. This news comes less than a week after Google said that it received its final shipment of Nexus One smartphones.

The Nexus One has never been a sales chart topper, and in March, Flurry Analytics predicted that Google only managed to sell 135,000 of the smartphones in its first 74 days of availability. In May, Google stated that, "It’s remained a niche channel for early adopters, but it’s clear that many customers like a hands-on experience before buying a phone, and they also want a wide range of service plans to chose from."

But there is no need to fear the loss of the Nexus One – there are plenty of Android-based smartphones to carry on the torch including excellent entries like the HTC Droid Incredible, HTC EVO 4G, Motorola Droid X, and the upcoming Motorola Droid 2.
