Nvidia graphics card partner refuses to honour 'lifetime' warranty

From X-bit Labs: Just about three months after BFG Technologies announced its plans to exit from the graphics cards business, the company started to quietly deny warranty repairs and replacements. Apparently, the company is liquidating its business in general, which means that customers should avoid buying BFG's latest GeForce GTX 470 and 480 graphics boards.

"BFG Technologies is in the process of winding down and liquidating its business. Unfortunately, our major supplier would not support our business. As a result, we are returning your graphics card without being able to repair it. We apologize for the inconvenience," the letter that BFG sends to customers requesting repair/replacement reads.

It is noteworthy that BFG intentionally offered lifetime limited warranty or ten years limited warranty on its graphics boards and stressed that it has free 24/7 technical support. It appears that the company does not plan to respect the warranty already three months after the decision to quit graphics cards business.

Although BFG was a well-known brand particularly in the U.S. as a premium, it did not have its own manufacturing capacities and acquired graphics cards from actual manufacturers. The high-end graphics boards are usually produced by contract manufacturers under supervision of Nvidia Corp. itself and are of premium quality. However, mainstream and entry-level graphics solutions are made by different producers and may not be truly excellent.
