From PC Mag: Have you been recieving a lot of annoying insurance-related spam calls lately? You're not the only one.
According to new data from Truecaller, insurance-related spam calls have skyrocketed in the last year: They now account for 39 percent of all spam calls in the US, up from just 2 percent last year.
Debt-collection spam calls have also increased significantly, Truecaller reported. Accounting for just 7 percent last year, they now make up 33 percent of all spam calls in the US.
Available for iOS and Android, the Truecaller app can automatically block unwanted calls based on known spammers as well as numbers you manually add. In 2018, US Truecaller users received an average of 16.9 spam calls per month, down from 20.7 last year.
"[The] USA has dropped from the 2nd highest country affected by spam calls to the 8th—compared to last year," Truecaller's director of communications Kim Fai Kok wrote in a blog post.
