Nintendo 3DS Launch Date/Price Confirmed

From DailyTech: Nintendo announced today that its 3DS system will be in stores March 27 of this year, and will cost $249.99.

The Nintendo 3DS is a portable game console that is capable of producing 3D effects through the use of autostereoscopy. Autostereoscopy allows a user to experience 3D effects without glasses or headgear.

The Nintendo 3DS was first announced on March 23, 2010, and was first seen on June 15 at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo. The system will feature backward compatibility with Nintendo DS series software, which includes the Nintendo DSi software.

According to Gamasutra, Nintendo has confirmed 30 games that will be available for the launch of the 3DS. Twenty-five of these games have been confirmed for the United States so far, including Nintendogs & Cats, Steel Diver, Pilotwings Resort and Super Street Fighter IV 3D.

Nintendo also noted that 3DS versions of Paper Mario, Mario Kart, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are in development.
