AMD Marketing Campaign Makes Fun of Intel Chipset Woes

From DailyTech: Many people at AMD were likely rubbing their hands together when Intel unveiled that it found a major flaw in the design in its Cougar Point chipset. The design flaw will ultimately cost Intel in the neighborhood of $1 billion USD. In fact, AMD is taking time out of its laughing to thank Intel for the help.

AMD has already stated that it gained customers from Intel that came to AMD specifically because of the Cougar Point chipset issue. The chipset problem is an IO flaw in the SATA ports that can cause performance to degrade over time.

AMD is taking more shots at Intel with a new advertising campaign that is carrying the tag line "Ready. Willing. And Stable." The marketing campaign also has a Twitter contest component that will run for 8-10 weeks according to AMD.

AMD's Tim Martin said, "It's really to emphasize the point that whatever difficulties [customers] may find themselves in at this point in time, we're there with competitive products."

AMD is looking at the Intel debacle as a way to target large multinational retailers like Avnet to fill the holes in their inventory left by the lack of boards running Cougar Point chipsets.

The online marketing campaign will run on tech sites and will direct users that click the ad to a page that shows AMD alternatives to the Intel hardware.
