Bungie Announces Indie Developer Initiative Bungie Aerospace

From DailyTech: "Halo" creator Bungie is looking to help out the little guys in the mobile development business through a new initiative called Bungie Aerospace.

While many reports speculated that Bungie Aerospace may be a new game, it is actually a partnership initiative that aims to help independent social/mobile game developers create and showcase their games. The partnership will give indie developers the resources they need like access to the Bungie.net platform and the Bungie community as an audience. The developers will also have the creative freedom needed to make their games a success.

Bungie's first partnership in the Bungie Aerospace venture will be with Seattle-based developer Harebrained Schemes. Harebrained Schemes is a small group of developers that is ran by Jordan Weisman, who created "Halo 2's" "I Love Bees" Alternate Reality Game, Wizkids, the MechWarrior and FASA Interactive.

The first mobile gaming title to be released from the new partnership is codenamed "Crimson," and will launch this summer for Android and iOS devices. No content-related details have been provided regarding the game.

"Bungie has always been passionate about making and playing great games, regardless of platform," said Pete Parsons, Bungie COO. "Bungie Aerospace will allow us to explore game creation in multiple formats with some amazingly talented teams. Now that we've returned to our roots as an independent studio, we are in a position to launch Bungie Aerospace to support, foster and elevate like-minded, independent developers."
