Seagate Makes Its Wireless HDD Compatible with Android Platform

From X-bit Labs: Seagate Technology on Monday unveiled a new app for Google Android operating system that will provide a seamless wireless connection to GoFlex Satellite 500GB mobile hard disk drive. Previously, the GoFlex Satellite sported limited compatibility with Android platform.

The GoFlex Satellite provides 500GB capacity that can be accessed using Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n interfaces and sports a rechargeable battery that sports up to 5 hours of battery life and up to 25 hours of standby time. The external hard disk drive also sports USB 3.0 interface. Although previously compatible with Android tablets and phones by using the device’s browser, the experience with GoFlex Satellite mobile wireless storage will now be enhanced through the seamless connectivity and added features of the GoFlex media app for Android.

“Seagate’s line of GoFlex external storage has always been about enabling flexibility and part of this flexibility is being OS agnostic. Seagate GoFlex Satellite mobile wireless storage continues with this theme of flexibility by providing added storage to mobile devices where there may not be a physical port to connect a cable. An Android supported app had been part of our development plans for the product from the very start. We are now pleased to offer the new GoFlex media app from the Android Market," said Patrick Connolly, vice president and general manager for Seagate retail product group.

Seagate GoFlex Satellite mobile wireless storage is currently available worldwide for a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $199.99.
