OnePlus Springs A Surprise And Delivers On A Popular Promise

From Forbes: OnePlus are making the transition from start-up and aggressive follower to a mainstream manufacturer who can take the lead in key areas. One of the tricky parts of that process is keeping the fans from one generation to the next. Part of that is maintaining promises.

With this week’s arrival of Android 9 for 2017’s OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, one big promise continues to be fulfilled.

OnePlus has made a lot of noise about its ongoing support of its older handsets, promising the security patches for at least three years and major upgrades for at least two years. In one sense it’s not surprising to see the 2017 handsets pick up Android Pie, but it’s a reassuring one.

It means that the promises made when the handsets were launched continue to be true. The trust offered has been rewarded.

It means that current owners of the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T feel that OnePlus continues to value them. It also has a knock-on effect for those with the newer handsets, including the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T and the new OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. The promises made at the launch for these handsets are written in a chequebook that has proven to be good.
