Instagram Briefly Made Feeds Scroll Sideways, Panic Ensued

From PC Mag: If you opened Instagram today and couldn't figure out how to scroll through your feed, you're not alone.

The Facebook-owned social media app on Thursday briefly rolled out an update for some people that made the main feed scroll horizontally instead of vertically. Instagram users quickly took to Twitter this morning to lament the side-scrolling format.

"This Instagram update is the worst thing that's happened in 2018," one user wrote.

But worry not: Instagram has already reverted the change, which it said was caused by a bug.

"Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today," Instagram wrote on Twitter this afternoon. "We quickly fixed the issue and feed is back to normal. We apologize for any confusion."

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri, who took helm of the company in October following the resignation of co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, explained on Twitter that the new format "was supposed to be a very small test that went broad by accident." If you're still seeing the side-scrolling feed, just restart the app and it should go back to normal, he advised.
