Intel Boosts Performance of Integrated HD Graphics 4000 by 10%

From X-bit Labs: Intel Corp. this week reiterated its commitment towards improving quality and performance of its integrated graphics cores. The company unveiled new drivers for its Intel HD Graphics cores that boosts performance of video games by up to 10%.

The latest Intel HD Graphics driver includes a new driver architecture and optimizations that reduce CPU overhead and increase performance by up to 10% in games like Starcraft II, Batman Arkham City and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria. These drivers support OpenCL 1.2 for general purpose programming using CPU, GPU and hardware acceleration on Intel HD Graphics, particularly on the HD Graphics 4000 core found in the latest code-named Ivy Bridge chips.

While it is rather remarkable that Intel managed to boost performance of its integrated graphics processors by 10% using new drivers, since it means that the company has actually started to optimize performance of video games, the actual speed offered by HD Graphics 4000 is so low in modern titles that 10% boost will be negligible.

The latest Intel HD graphics for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems are available for download.
