Navigating With Google Maps Is Now Safer And Easier With The Assistant Onboard

From Forbes: Google is finally melding two of it’s most useful apps into one package. The Assistant is coming to Google Maps. Navigating with Maps just got safer and easier.

Saying “OK Google” or tapping the microphone icon launches the Assistant while you’re navigating. If you’ve been using Maps to navigate, you’ll immediately notice the UI has been simplified to provide less visual distraction while driving. When you activate the Assistant a white panel with the icon indicating the Assistant is listening temporarily covers a panel at the bottom of the display that shows distance, ETA and navigation buttons.

The Assistant in Maps enables voice control for a full suite of navigation commands such as exploring alternate routes, looking for places like gas stations or coffee shops along the way, or sharing your ETA with a contact who’s waiting for you. Music and podcasts can also be controlled. Phone and text messages can be heard and replied to without leaving Maps. Punctuation is automatically added to text messages.

The Android version works with SMA, WhatsApp, Messenger, Hangouts, Telegram, Viber and others. Apple users don’t have access to all the third-party apps, but they no longer have to launch the Assistant separately to use it within Maps.
