MicroSD Cards Packing 1TB of Storage Arrive This Spring

From PC Mag: Micron and Western Digital are both prepping 1TB MicroSD cards, but they won't be cheap.

Western Digital's 1TB MicroSD will drop in April for $449.99. The SanDisk Extreme UHS-1 microSDXC can reach data read speeds of up to 160 MB/second or about 70 percent faster than the older UHS-1 microSD cards. Write speeds for the card, meanwhile, reach up to 90 MB/s.

Western Digital is marketing the card for people who take huge amounts of high-quality photos and videos, whether it be on smartphones, via drones or action cameras. "These impressive levels of capacity and speed give consumers the ability to create all the content they want without worrying about space limitations or long transfer times," the company said.

If $450 is too pricey, Western Digital will sell a 512GB version for a slightly more reasonable $199.99. Both versions are available for pre-order on SanDisk.com. The company also appears to be working on Pro and Plus versions of the 1TB card that feature a slightly higher data read speed at 170 MB/s.
