Everything Microsoft Announced at Its Surface Event

From PC Mag: It was a busy morning in New York today as Microsoft unveiled a whole new passel of Surface devices that will arrive in time for the holiday season, and teased two innovative, dual-screen gadgets coming in 2020, as well as a number of accessories.

The Surface Laptop is one of Microsoft's most beloved hardware devices, hitting a new high-water mark with the refined Surface Laptop 2. Today, the company announced it was updating the PC again and expanding the offering, revealing a Surface Laptop 3 that comes in both 13- and 15-inch sizes.

The smaller size (technically 13.5 inches) is the one that existed previously with the Laptop 2, and the equivalent Laptop 3 sees numerous upgrades. The new model includes fresh Intel 10th-gen "Ice Lake" processors, which should notably up the speed. While we loved the all-black Surface Laptop 2, the Surface Laptop 3 also comes in Cobalt and Sandstone for those who want some color. It's made of slick machined aluminum, though the previous generation's Alcantara fabric is also available for the keyboard deck.

The new Surface Pro X will grab more headlines, but the iterative upgrades coming to the Surface Pro 7 are worth a look. We rated the Surface Pro 6 well, so improvements to a good thing are nothing to sneeze at.

The big news: The Surface Pro finally includes USB-C. The tablet portion will offer both USB-C and USB-A ports, so peripheral users of all types should be happy. The lack of these more forward-looking ports has been a con for these otherwise great devices for some time, and Microsoft has finally heard the pleas.

It wasn't all laptops and tablets at today's Microsoft event. The follow-on to the Microsoft Surface headphones is the Microsoft Surface Earbuds. These "true wireless" earbuds (looking like big round disks over each ear) are rated for 24 hours of battery life and have no connecting cord between the two. (They come with a recharging case.)
