LG Upgrades Its 2019 OLED TVs With Nvidia G-Sync

From PC Mag: If you own one of LG's 2019 OLED TV models, there's a good chance you're going to receive an upgrade unlocking Nvidia's G-Sync adaptive frame rate technology to eliminate screen tearing when gaming.

The upgrade will come in the form of a firmware update, which will arrive this week in the US for LG's 2019 OLED TV models including the E9 (55- and 65-inch), C9 (55-, 65-, and 77-inch), and the B9 (55- and 65-inch). Once installed, the visual experience of playing games through a PC using a Nvidia graphics card supporting G-Sync will be improved on these televisions.

What G-Sync does is to allow the graphics card to adapt the frame rate of the TV to suit the game being played. The end result is the removal of any screen tearing that would otherwise occur, meaning a smoother and more enjoyable visual experience. That's the theory anyway, and AMD has a competing technology to achieve the same result called FreeSync. AMD's tech is royalty-free, though.
