From PC Mag: The coronavirus pandemic may have slowed down the release of new hardware, but if leaked photographs are to be believed, Nvidia is still on track to launch GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards this year.
As Videocardz.com reports, the first images of what looks to be a RTX 3080 graphics card have leaked via the Chinese-language website Chiphell. Rather than a consumer-ready graphics card, they are thought to be engineering samples, but that does mean we are seeing the near final design.
The card looks to have a unique design with a V-shaped board underneath two fans. Because the board ends halfway across the card, it means one of the fans can be positioned lower and therefore closer to the Ampere-powered GPU. It's a design reminiscent of the GeForce GTX 295 reference card from 2009. By positioning the fans in this way, it allows for a bi-directional design allowing one fan to pull cool air in from the bottom of the card, while the other pushes the hot air out the top after it has passed over and cooled the GPU.
One side effect of this new design is the power connectors may have to be located in a different position, with the Quadro side-mounted connectors thought to be the most logical positioning. However, we have to remember the images are at best from an engineering sample and may end up changing.
