From PC Mag: Today, Sony has revealed what we can expect to see when booting up the PlayStation 5 user interface, and it's a very different experience to what's gone before on the PS3 and PS4. The reveal was done via an 11-minute video, which you can watch in full below.
Sony says that the PS5 user interface has been given a look and feel designed for 4K TVs, which will be the most popular choice for anyone wishing to enjoy PS5 games to their fullest. The interface has been designed around the concept of cards, which have different functions depending on where you are in the interface.
Cards give you access to news on the games you follow, recent video captures, and another new idea: activities. Activities allow developers to break a game down into manageable chunks and add additional information and help to each chunk. For example, an activity could be one level within a game, with the card for that activity listing the objectives, the percentage completed, and the estimated time until you've done all the listed objectives. However, an activity can go further than that. For example, help can be offered, and PS Plus members can also access hints including videos showing you what to do to complete an objective, you can even watch it picture-in-picture and play along with the video as your guide.
Voice chat has been made a first-class feature and is available quickly with a button tap. The DualSense controller includes a built-in microphone so you can just start chatting with friends. If a friend is online playing another game, you can bring up a card and watch them play while chatting with them. It's like Sony created its own version of Twitch, but just for PS5. Of course, you can also choose to join their game, if it's multiplayer, directly from the card.
