iFixit Teardown Reveals Few Differences Between iPhone 12, 12 Pro

From PC Mag: Can't decide between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro? iFixit's latest teardown reveals the two devices are almost identical inside and out, with just a few distinctions.

Following Friday's livestreamed event, the repair experts published an in-depth breakdown of Apple's latest smartphones (include a disassembly of the new MagSafe power puck). The iPhone 12, announced earlier this month, marks the return of square edges and reminiscent of the iPhone 4. According to iFixit, the new design allows for more screen real estate without added bulk.

It's what's inside that counts, though, right? And what's inside the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro is basically the same. With both screens removed, teardown engineers played a game of spot the difference and found very few, aside from the camera shields—underneath which lies the biggest disparity: an extra snapper on the Pro.

"Turns out these phones are so similar, that where the Pro keeps its extra camera module + LiDAR sensor, the standard 12 has… a plastic spacer," iFixit said. Both handsets sport 12-megapixel wide and ultra-wide cameras with f/1.6 and f/2.4 apertures, respectively, while the Pro comes with an added f/2.0 telephoto lens, as well as some other bells and whistles.
