Report: Nintendo Switch With 7-Inch OLED Display Expected This Year

From PC Mag: Nintendo won't talk about what's coming next for its Switch hardware, but a new leak suggests we are going to get a new Switch model with a larger, OLED touch screen before the end of 2021.

The Switch model on the market today uses a 6.2-inch 720p LCD panel, while the Switch Lite uses a smaller, 5.5-inch 720p LCD panel. As Bloomberg reports, "people familiar with the plan" believe Nintendo is planning to introduce a new model with a 7-inch 720p Samsung OLED panel, with Samsung expected to start shipping around a million units of the display a month starting in June.

By switching to OLED, Nintendo can offer more vibrant colors and deeper blacks while at the same time keeping power draw to a minimum. The move to a larger panel also suggests a slightly larger Switch, which would allow for a larger battery. However, it's also possible this new Switch could be the same size as the existing model, but with smaller screen bezels.

The fact the OLED panel is thought to be 720p is key, as it will also help with battery life when playing in handheld mode. However, that won't stop Nintendo upgrading the components inside the Switch to allow for 4K output when the hybrid console is placed in its dock.
