From PC Mag: WhatsApp will stop supporting iOS 10 and iOS 11 in October.
Based on a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo(Opens in a new window), the messaging platform plans to end support for older versions of Apple's mobile operating systems, and therefore older iPhone models, on Oct. 24.
An article posted to the official WhatsApp Help Center(Opens in a new window) recommends using an iPhone running "iOS 12 and newer." Those still carrying an iPhone 5S, 6, or 6S can continue texting with WhatsApp, but you'll just need to make sure your device is running a more recent version of iOS. The platform, however, will no longer be compatible with iPhone 5 and 5C come October, as iOS 12 is not available for these old devices.
Before support ends for different versions of old operating systems, WhatsApp notifies users directly in the app and sends multiple reminders to upgrade. It seems unlikely many people will still be relying on an iPhone 5 for their WhatsApp access, but there will always be a few holdouts who really will need to spend some cash and upgrade their smartphone over the next five months.
