From PC Mag: Boom Supersonic has found a source for the engines on its upcoming Overture passenger jet—and it’s none of the usual suspects.
The Denver-based startup's Mach 1.7 airliner will use a new-design engine called Symphony to be developed by a company with roots in military drones instead of commercial aviation.
Boom picked Florida Turbine Technologies, a subsidiary of the San Diego military contractor Kratos Defense and Security Solutions(Opens in a new window), to lead this work. Boom had earlier signed up Rolls-Royce, one of the big four engine manufacturers along with General Electric, Pratt & Whitney and Safran, to research adapting an existing design, but that collaboration ended earlier this year.
