From ExtremeTech: AMD is rumored to be taking its patented 3D V-cache technology to more products after seeing notable performance benefits in Ryzen 7 9000 series CPUs. This could mark an explosion in the use of the 3D stacking technology, which is already available in certain AMD Ryzen processors and its Epyc 9004 series server processors. If the rumor is true, upcoming generations of Ryzen APUs and Threadripper CPUs could be sporting 3DX at the end of their product numbers.
The leaker, who goes by zhangzhonghao, apparently checked in with supply chain sources after hearing that a BIOS manual for an Asus TRX motherboard mentioned V-cache. The manual has a subsection labeled 3D V-Cache and lists several configuration options, including Auto, Disable, 1 Stack, 2 Stack, and 4 Stack. The BIOS manual is marked Pro WS sTR5 Series BIOS Manual.
As for APUs, the leaker expects 3D V-cached to appear in laptop products. After some initial questions about which generation APUs will get the tech, Wccftech says that the generation after the upcoming Strix Halo APUs will likely be first.
