From PC Mag: Rivian is plugging Google Maps into its navigation system, replacing its previous Mapbox-based software. The Irvine, Calif., EV maker announced today that Rivian drivers should soon start seeing this update roll out to their vehicles and to the company’s mobile app via software updates.
“Rivian drivers will benefit from fresh traffic and place information from Google Maps which gets more than 100 million updates each day,” the company said. “No matter the destination, fresh traffic data will help you find the fastest route, keep your ETA accurate along the way, and even reroute you if a quicker option becomes available during your drive.”
Reddit’s r/Rivian forum has featured more than a few complaints about the timeliness of data in the current navigation software.
This Google-based rewrite also expands on an earlier integration of Google’s points-of-interest database to allow easy lookup of information about an upcoming establishment or attraction—a task that we hope drivers either leave to their passengers or set aside until after they’ve parked the car.
