Creative Pebble X Plus Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

On first glance, the Creative Pebble X Plus does have a lot of charm with its physical implementation. With a rotund design, both on the speakers and subwoofer, it is a cute set. Adding to this is the colorful lighting Creative has implemented for an eye-catching view. In terms of features, the Pebble X Plus provides multiple wired and wireless input options. It also can double as a headphone and microphone connection if you desire. The controls are easily accessible, and work as expected. The subwoofer, while small, helps in covering the low-end frequencies. When we look at the audio performance, we can see the small size is both a blessing and curse. On the one hand, this provides more sound than expected for its size. You really would not expect this amount of volume from a compact unit like this. On the other hand, the maximum power output is still a bit low for a pair of desktop speakers, limiting its reach to smaller rooms. Furthermore, the small subwoofer is not capable of delivering the full range of the low-end. We also saw struggles with its reduced soundstage and layering details. In its implementation, I would have also liked to see a handful of things addressed. For one, Creative should include a USB PD adapter out of the box to unlock its full potential immediately. Secondly, cabling everything together is messy with the Pebble X Plus' short, fixed, and numerous wires. Thirdly, I would have liked to see more codecs supported for Bluetooth connections, especially AAC and aptX. At the time of the review, the Creative Pebble X Plus has a list price of $130, but can be found on sale for cheaper. If you are limited in space but still want enjoyable listening, the Creative Pebble X Plus is a capable speaker setup for its size, but there are still areas where improvements could be made.
