TP-Link Archer C5400X Review (Page 5 of 5)

Page 5 - Conclusion

With a 1.8GHz 64-bit quad-core CPU, three co-processors, 1GB RAM, triple bands for a combined 5334 Mbps theoretical bandwidth, and built-in antivirus protection, just how amazing is the TP-Link Archer C5400X? Besides the seriously powerful internal hardware, the C5400X has the external hardware to back it up. You may think its eight antennas is a bit of an overkill, and while it is true having eight antennas versus four does little in the short range as shown in our tests, the C5400X has serious wall penetration power and long distance throughput, ranking it among the best of any router we have tested here at APH Networks at long range. Furthermore, the C5400X has eight built-in gigabit Ethernet ports -- uncommon for wireless routers, which normally feature four -- so you can save some money from not buying an external switch; not to mention better performance if your computers move a lot of data between each other. The stock software is also reasonably powerful, feature loaded, and easy to use for consumers and power users alike. It is still no DD-WRT, but for the most part, it should satisfy most users. My main complaint is the antennas are fixed in position, meaning they cannot be aimed. Furthermore, the seriously powerful internal hardware also comes at the price of size and power consumption. The TP-Link Archer C5400X is massive and runs hot. Are these deal breakers? Far from it. For about $260 at press time, TP-Link cracks the market with a seriously awesome AC5300 router that can handle many devices in a home environment for a surprisingly reasonable price.
