From DailyTech: Sony has offered up some new statistics on how well the PlayStation 4 game console is selling. Sony says that since the PS4 launched last year, over 5.3 million units have been sold. The sales stats are accurate as of February 8, 2014, and best Sony’s “5 million in 5 months” figure that the company originally forecast.
Last week we learned that Sony's PS4 game console had nearly doubled the sales of the Xbox One in January.
"I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season," said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
"The PS4 system's momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation fans. February 22 sees the launch of PS4 in Japan, and I'm looking forward to Japanese fans sharing the excitement of the deep social capabilities and entertainment experiences only possible on PS4."
Sony is on a roll with PS4 sales despite the fact that some major markets still don’t yet have access to the console (including Japan).
