Windows 8.1 Update 1 Leaked Early

From DailyTech: Windows 8.1 may not be a highly regarded in the enthusiast community, but that didn’t stop some Windows 8.1 loyalists from discovering that Windows 8.1 Update 1 was sitting on Microsoft’s servers, ripe for the picking.

Initially, Update 1 was available by simply adding a new key in your system registry. Adding a new key called “SHWindowsPoolS14” followed by a system reboot allowed Windows 8.1 to download six prerequisite updates to get you to the official Update 1 build.

However, after news of the “unauthorized” downloads started to quickly spread, Microsoft shut down the registry hack and took down the updates necessary to complete the process.

A word of caution, the updates have to be installed in the following order:

KB2919442
KB2939087
KB2932046
KB2919355
KB2938439
KB2937592

If you aren’t comfortable performing the updates on your own, just wait for Microsoft’s official release. If you feel up to task, there are some helpful guides available at Neowin and My Digit Life.
