From DailyTech: We knew that Hewlett-Packard was taking budget tablet offerings seriously when it launched the $170 HP 8 1401 — an 8” Android tablet — back in early March. However, the company is going even further by making available an even cheaper tablet for U.S. customers.
The HP 7 Plus, as its name implies, comes with a 7” display featuring a screen resolution of 1024x600. It also comes with a quad-core, ARM Cortex A7-based processor from Allwinner (it won’t win any performance competitions, but it’s “good enough”), front- and rear-facing cameras, 8GB of onboard storage, a microSD slot, and 802.11n connectivity. HP even throws in a 25GB of free Box storage for life with purchase of the tablet.
And best of all, the price tag for the 0.65-pound HP 7 Plus is an extremely reasonable $100.
The $100 price tag means that you’ll have to do without Bluetooth, and its operating system is already outdated (it comes preloaded with Android 4.2.2 Jellybean). And you’ll have look past the relatively poor battery life of just five and a half hours on a charge via its 2800 mAh battery.
However, if you’re just looking for a cheap tablet for mom or the kids, there’s really not much to complain about here. And unlike cheap Fire-branded tablets from Amazon, you actually have full access to the Google Play Store and Google Mobile Services.
