Motorola Moto 360 Smartwatch to Support Qi Wireless Charging

From DailyTech: The Google I/O conference kicks off tomorrow with a two-hour keynote, and we’re bound to see a big emphasis placed on the Android Wear platform that will power a new generation of wearable devices.

While LG has announced its G Watch, and Samsung is set to show off its own Android Wear smartwatch this week, the Motorola Moto 360 has been the poster child for Google’s move into the wearables market.

Today, we’re learning that the Moto 360 will support wireless charging via the Qi wireless standard, which is backed by the Wireless Power Consortium. An FCC filing, first uncovered by Lilliputing, details the Motorola SPN5845A Wireless Charger that was tested exclusively with the Moto 360 smartwatch.

So we now know that the Moto 360 will support wireless charging, but what it still unknown is if the smartwatch will support a more traditional “corded” charger with a microUSB connector for those that don’t want to lug around a charging pad while traveling. We also don’t know if existing Qi charging pads will be compatible with the Moto 360.
