AT&T Will Also Receive the HTC One (M8) for Windows

From DailyTech: Just when we though that the HTC One (M8) for Windows would be a Verizon Wireless exclusive, AT&T tonight issued a short press release stating that it too will offer the smartphone.

Just like the variant that is now available on Verizon Wireless’ network, AT&T’s version will share hardware specs with the [Android-based] HTC One M8, but will run Windows Phone 8.1 complete with the Cortana personal digital assistant.

Unfortunately, it appears that AT&T just wanted to steal a bit of Verizon Wireless’ thunder this evening, and hasn’t yet announced pricing or availability (although we’re sure that it will be priced similarly).

Microsoft was sitting at just 2.5 percent global market share with Windows Phone during Q2, which was actually a pretty steep drop compared to the 3.4 percent it held during the same period last year. So partnered launches on Verizon Wireless and AT&T are key to getting buyers accustomed to high-end smartphones to actually take a look at the Windows Phone 8.1 platform. And on the low-end, Microsoft has devices like the Nokia Lumia 530 to appease the penny-pinchers.
