Sony Gets With the Program, Pledges to Update Entire Xperia Z Lineup to “Lollipop”

From DailyTech: Sony has come under fire recently for its decision to abandon updates for its smartphones that were little over a year old. For example, the Xperia L, which was released in May 2013 launched with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but was only updated to Android 4.2. The Xperia M (released in August 2013) and the Xperia SP (released in April 2013) only got as far as Android 4.3, and never received an update to Android 4.4 KitKat.

It appears that Sony has listened to the angry forums posts and emails from customers and is looking to right previous wrongs with its Xperia Z lineup of tablets and smartphones. The Japanese electronics giant has committed to updating all of the mobile devices in the Xperia Z family to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The company stated in a blog post yesterday:

We’ll be making Sony Mobile’s Android “L” upgrade available for the entire premium Z series*: including Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

The blog post also made mention of a new Google Play edition of the Xperia Z Ultra — this will be the first Sony device to receive Lollipop.
