Apple: iPhone 6S, 6S Plus preorders 'very strong' in opening weekend

From CNET: The new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are seeing "exceptionally strong" initial demand, Apple said Monday.

Apple launched presales of its latest iPhone lineup on Saturday a minute past midnight, Pacific time, allowing consumers to lock in their purchases in advance of the actual launch date of September 25. Some of those who tried to preorder online bumped into initial glitches in which certain sites, such as Apple's own online store, were unavailable for almost an hour after the process was supposed to kick off.

But despite any technical issues, orders apparently have been flying.

Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller called preorders for the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus "very strong" globally, according to The Wall Street Journal, adding that online demand for the 6S Plus was "exceptionally" strong. Based on the number of preorders, Muller said that Apple is "on pace" to surpass last year's initial sales when the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus captured 10 million sales during their first weekend.
