From PC World: We knew something was amiss. We’ve been testing the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition for the last week, and its performance has been unreliable. Now, citing a “hardware issue,” LG is halting sales of the watch, which launched via AT&T last week, and was primed to go sale via Verizon tomorrow.
LG explains:
“Late in the quality assurance process for the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE, our engineers were made aware of a hardware issue which affects the day-to-day functionality of the device. After further investigation, the decision was made to cancel the rollout of the Urbane 2nd Edition LTE due to the complicated nature of the issue.
“Whether the device will be available in the future will be decided at a later time. For now, our top priority is to ensure that only products that meet our very specific quality standards are available for purchase. We apologize for this inconvenience.”
The botched rollout is an ignominious development for the first Android Wear watch to feature a SIM card for voice calls and data service directly on the watch. LG hasn’t yet told us what the hardware problem is, but during testing I’ve found problems with Wi-Fi and LTE performance. In short: Google Now voice commands don’t work reliably unless the Urbane 2nd Edition LTE is tethered to my phone.
