2018 OLED iPhones Expected to Use Bigger L-Shaped Batteries

From PC Mag: If you are still considering which new iPhone to buy this year, it may be worth waiting until next year's iPhone refresh. I realize you can say that every time a new iPhone appears, but 2018 is different if KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is to be believed. Forget any new and novel features, next year's iPhone are getting bigger batteries.

Typically, Apple ships new iPhones with battery life comparable to the last generation. So even if the screen is bigger, the cameras better, and the phone has more features, it manages to retain the same battery life as the iPhone 8$699.99 at Verizon Wireless did this year. However, according to Kuo, the 2018 iPhones are different because Apple will replace the typical rectangular battery with an L-shaped one. By doing so, Apple can better utilize the space inside the iPhone while significantly increasing the battery life offered.

As AppleInsider reports, KGI is expecting three new iPhones next year sporting 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED displays and one with a 6.1-inch LCD. The 5.8-inch iPhone will have a battery capacity of around 2,900mAh where as the 6.5-inch model could be as high as 3,400mAh and both use the L-shaped battery. The 6.1-inch handset will use the more standard rectangular battery design. For comparison, the iPhone X uses a 2,716mAh battery, the iPhone 8 uses a 1,821mAh battery, and the iPhone 8 Plus a 2,691mAh battery.
