Google Launches Indoor Mapping with Google Maps 6.0

From DailyTech: Google Maps has unveiled a new type of mapping service for Android devices and allows you to find out where you are and what's around you indoors. The app supports several different types of locations.

If you travel a lot, it will be a very nice update. The app covers the inside of airports, malls, and retail stores around the country. The new feature is rolled out as part of Google Maps 6.0 for Android.

When the user zooms in on a building detailed floor plans will appear when the data is available. The will be a blue dot icon as users are accustomed to seeing that shows your location within a few meters. If the place has multiple levels all will be covered.

To start with, the new maps update will offer floor maps of some of the largest retailers in the country. The indoor maps will cover places like Mall of America, IKEA, the Home Depot, and some Macy's and Bloomingdales stores. Airports covered include Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Narita International (NRT) and others.
