Verizon Blocks Google Wallet from Galaxy Nexus

From DailyTech: A Google spokesperson has confirmed that Google Wallet will not be included in the Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

Google Wallet is a mobile payment system that allows users to store credit cards, gift cards, loyalty cards and offers in their Android-powered device. Everyday items can be purchased with the NFC technology by tapping the phone at a PayPass-enabled checkout. It was released in late September.

Verizon has decided that its upcoming Galaxy Nexus will not receive Google Wallet, and many suspect that the reason for this is the fact that Verizon has a NFC payment system of its own in the works.

Verizon customers will be offered Isis instead, which is an upcoming mobile payment system expected to launch in mid-2012. It is a joint venture between Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile.

In addition, Verizon will be placing some of its own apps on its Galaxy Nexus, but the latest Android OS Ice Cream Sandwich will allow users to disable preinstalled apps if they wish to do so.

Despite the lack of Google Wallet, Verizon's Galaxy Nexus will receive regular Google updates like other Android-powered phones.
