Seagate Reportedly Interested in Buying Former Solar Panels Fab

From X-bit Labs: Seagate Technology, one of the world's largest maker of hard disk drives, is reportedly interested in taking over manufacturing facility that previously belonged to Solyndra, now insolvent maker of solar panels. It is unknown for what does Seagate need the property.

The former headquarters of Solyndra and manufacturing capacities that were used to make cylindrical solar panels are located in Fremont, California. The property cost $300 million in 2010, but the current price is not known. Cupertino, California-based Seagate is in deal to buy the plant and office building, reports Reuters news-agency.

Solyndra's high-tech manufacturing facility has ultra clean environments and was build to withstand an earthquake. It is unclear whether the plant can be equipped with a cleanroom which may be used to manufacture hard disk drives, but it is logical to expect that the ultra-clean facility will be used for making products, not to store them.
