AMD Preps Radeon HD 7790 Bonaire Graphics Card

From X-bit Labs: Advanced Micro Devices is working on a new graphics card based on a new graphics processing unit. The new Radeon HD 7790 will use all-new Bonaire graphics chip that promises to significantly boost performance of inexpensive graphics cards. Sapphire Technologies, one of the world’s largest supplier of graphics cards in the world, has already developed its own Radeon HD 7790 and will be ready to roll-out the new product when AMD makes official announcement.

The Bonaire graphics processor is based on AMD graphics core next (GCN) architecture and features 768 stream processors that operate at up to 1075MHz, which should ensure considerably higher performance compared to AMD Radeon HD 7770 graphics solutions based on Cape Verde XT GPUs (which feature 640 stream processors operating at 1GHz), reports SweClockers web-site. AMD Radeon HD 7790 graphics boards will be equipped with 1GB or 2GB GDDR5 memory at 6.40GHz clock-speed with peak theoretical bandwidth of 102.4GB/s.

Earlier this year AMD said that while it will introduce the all-new Radeon HD 8000 family of graphics processors in late 2013 – early 2014 timeframe, it would refresh the Radeon HD 7000 lineup with new chips. The Bonaire is among the first new additions to the Radeon HD 7000 family.

Sapphire’s Radeon HD 7790 is a relatively short graphics card with two fans and dual-slot cooling system. The board features DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs and one six-pin PCI Express power connector.

The AMD Radeon HD 7000-series graphics processors support all the advantages that the graphics core next (GCN) architecture has to offer, including support for DirectX 11.1, OpenCL 1.2, OpenGL 4.3, PCI Express 3.0, AMD Eyefinity 2.0, ultra high-definition output support using DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4a, optimized power consumption, integrated 7.1 audio controller, stereo-3D/Blu-ray 3D support, and other new technologies.
