Nvidia Refreshes Product Line with GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost

From X-bit Labs: Nvidia Corp. on Tuesday introduced a graphics card that will compete directly against recently launched Radeon HD 7790 from Advanced Micro Devices. Unlike its major rival, the novelty is not based on a brand-new graphics chip, but utilizes an already well-known solution and is configured to offer slightly better performance than the original GTX 650 Ti.

The GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost is based on GK106 graphics processing unit that is configured to offer 768 stream processors, 64 texture units, 24 raster operating units as well as 192-bit GDDR5 memory interface. Nvidia recommends its partners to set GPU clock-speed at 980MHz (the chip can overclock itself to 1033MHz in case thermal design power allows that) and equip the solution with 6.00GHz GDDR5 memory. Thanks to an up to 10% clock-speed boost, increase amount of ROPs and improved memory bandwidth, Nvidia can declare 10% - 40% performance improvement of the GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost over the predecessor, the GeForce GTX 650 Ti.

The GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost will sit right between GTX 650 Ti and GTX 660 in Nvidia’s lineup and will even rely on printed circuit boards designed for the GTX 660. While the novelty will deliver new levels of performance for Nvidia GeForce-based graphics solutions in $149 - $169 price-range, it is hard to expect the new product to be a true breakthrough, especially considering that it is based on the GK106 chip.

Still, the product cannot be called slow or outdated. GK106 GPU is based on Kepler architecture and made using 28nm process technology, so they fully support contemporary capabilities like DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.3, OpenCL 1.2, stereoscopic-3D, multi-monitor output, PhysX, PCI Express 3.0 and so on.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost is available in 2GB and 1GB configurations at an estimated $169 and $149, respectively. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB edition is available now from the world's leading add-in card suppliers, including ASL, Asustek Computer, Colorful, ECS, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision 3D, Jetway, Leadtek, MSI, Palit, PNY, Point of View, Sparkle and Zotac. The GTX 650 Ti Boost 1GB version will be available in early April.
