Nokia Announces Lumia 928

From X-bit Labs: Nokia Corp. has announced the Lumia 928 smartphone, the latest installment in Nokia's Windows Phone 8 lineup. The new flagship from Nokia will have the same microprocessor, software and technologies as the predecessor, the Lumia 920. Still, it has a number of enhancements meant to make it good enough to compete against Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4.

Even though the new smartphone carries a new name, it does not have a lot of advantages over its predecessor, the Lumia 920. The novelty sports the same dual-core Qualcomm 8960 system-on-chip, Windows Phone 8 operating system, camera, 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage compared to its predecessor. Scroll below for full specs. However, it has OLED display, new microphones and some other minor enhancements. Despite of obvious similarities to Lumia 920, Nokia advertises the model 928 as an all-new smartphone, something unexpected from a company that used to a leader on the smartphone market just a little over two years ago.

Nokia Lumia 928 features PureView imaging technology with optical image stabilization. The smartphone comes with good-old 8.7MP camera featuring wide angle Carl Zeiss lens and powerful Xenon flash.

In addition Nokia Lumia 928 offers rich distortion-free audio capture, even in noisy conditions. Built with three high-audio-amplitude-capture (HAAC) microphones and one of the most advanced loudspeakers available for smartphones, people can record and play back the sound just like they first heard it, all the way up to 140db - the sound equivalent of an airplane taking off. These features shine when using Vyclone, a new app for Windows Phone that lets people co-create, sync and edit multiple views of a shared moment.

"Whether you're attending a party, a concert or a sporting event with friends, the Nokia Lumia 928 excels at capturing high-quality video, audio and blur-free photos of life's most share-worthy moments," said Matt Rothschild, vice president of Nokia North America.

The Nokia Lumia 928 is available for purchase in white or black at Verizon Wireless stores and online beginning Thursday, May 16 for $99 after a $50 mail-in rebate, with a new two-year customer agreement. For a limited time, get a $25 credit for Windows Phone apps and games with the purchase of a Nokia Lumia 928.
