Seagate Unleashes Complete Line of SSD Products

From X-bit Labs: Seagate Technology, one of the world’s largest maker of hard disk drives, on Tuesday introduced a lineup of solid state drives (SSDs) for consumers and businesses and its next-generation enterprise SSDs. The family for consumers and professionals includes Seagate 600, Seagate 600 Pro and the Seagate 1200. Seagate also announced the new Seagate X8 Accelerator, a storage class memory PCI Express card powered by Virident.

“With these new drives, Seagate solidifies its commitment to the flash-based storage market by delivering enterprise SSDs and server-side solutions as well as client solutions. By adding more SSDs to our family of hard disk and solid state hybrid drives, we now have the broadest portfolio of storage products in the industry, delivering one-stop shopping for our customers and partners,” said Gary Gentry, senior vice president and general manager of Seagate’s solid state drive business.

Seagate 600-series SSDs are available in 2.5”/7mm and 2.5”/5mm form-factors and 120GB, 240GB and 480GB solid-state drives. The SSDs are based on multi-level cell NAND flash memory and Link A Media Device’s (LAMD’s) LM87800 controller. The SSDs provide over 500MB/s sustained sequential read speed as well as 300MB/s or 400MB/s sustained write speed. Seagate declares up to 80K 4KB read IOPS and up to 60K or 70K write IOPS, depending on the model.

Seagate 600 Pro solid-state drives are powered by the same multi-level cell NAND flash memory from Toshiba and LAMD’s LM87800 controller as the younger brother, but is available in 2.5”/7mm form-factor only. The drives are available in 100GB, 120GB, 200GB, 240GB, 400GB and 480GB capacity. Seagate declares 520MB/s sequential read speed and 300MB/s or 450MB/s sequential write speed, depending on the model of 600 Pro SSD. Random read IOPS of the drives is 80K or 85K, whereas random write IOPS is 8K, 11K, 20K or 30K, depending on the model.

Seagate 1200-series solid-state drives are available in 200GB, 400GB and 800GB capacities and are based on advanced multi-level cell NAND flash memory. Seagate expects the drives to deliver 800MB/s peak sequential read speed, 640MB/s peak sequential write speed, 120K random read IOPS, 40K random write IOPS. The Seagate 1200 SSD comes in either a 1.8” or 2.5” form-factor.
