Zotac Introduces NUC-Like Zbox Nano PCs with RAID Storage Support

From X-bit Labs: Zotac, a well-known maker of computer components, has introduced its own Intel NUC-like systems powered by Intel Core i-series “Ivy Bridge” microprocessors. The new Zbox nano will feature various dual-core chips. In addition, Zotac decided to incorporate its own nanoRAID storage adapter that can substantially boost storage performance into the systems.

“Our engineers have done a phenomenal job combining the raw CPU power of Intel Core processors and Intel HD Graphics 4000 into our tiny Zbox nano platform. The performance and customizability available in these palm-sized Zbox nano is unmatched by any of our competitors,” said Carsten Berger, senior director of Zotac International.

Zotac Zbox nano ID 63, ID64 and ID65 ultra-small form-factor systems are based on dual-core Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors featuring Ivy Bridge micro-architecture and Intel HD Graphics 4000. The systems can be equipped with up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, one 2.5” hard drive or two mSATA SSDs with Zotac nanoRAID storage adapter that supports RAID 0 and RAID 1 modes. Full specs are listed below.

The new USFF systems from Zotac are perfect for productivity applications, but will barely be able to provide decent performance in professional or gaming programs due to relatively low core count and single-channel memory. In fact, despite of features like nanoRAID storage adapter, Zotac’s new Zbox nano will offer performance lower compared to competing solutions that support dual-channel memory.
