LG G2 Coupon Giveaway Causes Riot, 20 are Injured

From DailyTech: LG attempted to muster up some enthusiasm for its new G2 smartphone with an event in Seoul, but after it ended poorly, the hardware maker decided to cancel all ensuing G2 PR occasions.

LG held an event for the G2 in Seoul last Friday, where balloons were released into the air with 100 free G2 coupons attached. Those who obtained the coupons would receive a free G2 smartphone, which retails for 950,000 South Korean Won ($852 USD).

However, the event turned ugly when participants started using BB guns to pop the balloons and grab the coupons. Also, the crowd got a bit out of hand, and LG only had about 20 security guards attend the event -- after spreading the word about it on social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

About 20 people were injured during the G2 fiasco, some of which were hospitalized. LG offered to pay for the participants' medical treatment, since the company took responsibility for the incident.

LG is also canceling the rest of its planned G2 balloon events in order to prevent this from happening again.
