Sprint to Unveil One Up Early Upgrade Plan on September 20

From DailyTech: Three of the four major U.S. carriers have already introduced early upgrade plans, so the straggler (Sprint) has decided to offer one too.

According to CNET, Sprint will launch its early upgrade plan -- called "One Up" -- on September 20, and it looks to be a better offer than that of its competitors.

One Up will allow both smartphone and tablet Sprint subscribers to enjoy some perks, such as no down payment, no extra monthly fee and a discount on the monthly plan cost. It allows subscribers to upgrade after 12 months.

In fact, CNET reports that One Up will cost about half of a phone's retail price for a year before trading it in for something else.

Sprint's new One Up plan is an attempt to follow the other three major U.S. carriers, who've already released early upgrade plans of their own.

T-Mobile was the first to announce its "Jump" plan in early July. Its early upgrade plan lets customers upgrade every six months for an extra $10 fee each month on top of their regular, monthly wireless charges. It applies to smartphones only (no tablets).

Shortly after, AT&T unveiled its early upgrade plan called "Next," which lets customers trade in their smartphones and tablets every 12 months on a post-paid basis -- meaning they pay a monthly fee on top of their regular AT&T plan based on a 20-month cycle. It doesn't lay any extra fees on the customer other than the retail price divided by 20, but customers will be forced to pay the remaining months’ fees.
