ASUSTOR AS-602T Review (Page 7 of 7)

Page 7 - Final Thoughts and Conclusion

At APH Networks, we have looked at many NAS products in the past, but never have we seen one from ASUSTOR before. I won't lie, when I first heard about this product, I was a little skeptical about a relatively new company producing network attached storage systems. However, after prolonged usage, I can say I really did like the ASUSTOR AS-602T. The usage of ADM, their own operating system, was a nice touch. It has an intuitive and easy to use interface that also looked modern. Sometimes, we have to choose between function or style, but with ADM, we can have both in one combined package. Although it may draw inspirations from many mobile products these days, the theme and the usage of separate applications is a great asset to the overall package.

Performance wise, the ASUSTOR AS-602T was also no slouch, posting some decent benchmark results in the process. The usage of the Atom D2700 processor running at 2.13 GHz with 1 MB of L2 cache, paired up with 1 GB of DDR3 memory was great for the performance of the device. This is not to mention the RAM is upgradable to up to 3GB, which should be more than enough for any scenario this product is designed for. The biggest feature of all, in terms of the software, had to be the App Central, which had easy one button installation of other applications such as a download manager, surveillance center, and many other applications that had home usage and also website usage as well.

When it comes down to overall package, the ASUSTOR AS-602T is well rounded, starting from the design going towards the hardware and the software. The package as a whole is very well produced, and shows what a relatively new company entering the market can do. If there was one thing I would work on it would be the addition of more applications into the App Central, and to boost the overall performance of the device. I am not saying that the current performance wasn't enough, but it would be nice to inch out every little bit of performance possible. All in all, the ASUSTOR AS-602T is one impressive package and a great introduction into the NAS market. For about $500 at press time, I think it is pretty steep for a 2-bay system, so the choice is yours.
