Patriot Viper V570 Blackout Edition Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

As I mentioned in the beginning, it is easy to see the Patriot Viper V570 Blackout Edition is a new mouse trying to shuffle onto the desks of many. Beginning with the positives, we have a very good looking mouse, especially in the fully black look. This is a nice departure from the red-black color scheme. It also is built quite well with decent side grips to hold onto. It indeed is made for larger hands than mine, but I found it still quite comfortable. Other features that are good to see here include the braided cable, additional weights, and RGB lighting. In addition, the plentiful of buttons is great to see, especially for MMORPGs. The ceramic feet also provide great glide, though it takes time to get used to. The body of the mouse is also a contentious point, because its weight, size, and button placement was too much for me. It definitely will vary from person to person. However, if Patriot is to market this as a gamer mouse, then I would suggest them to change a couple of things to make it a bit more competitive. First of all, the Avago ADNS-9800 laser sensor is just not sufficient for gaming purposes in 2017. It was, at one point, one of the best sensors in the market, but it was near the beginning of this decade. In the Patriot Viper V570 Blackout Edition specifically, the mouse suffers from input lag. Spinning out is also possible with this sensor, which is disappointing. Secondly, button feedback on the non-primary buttons feels hard and cheap. Otherwise, I also found issues with the software not being able to save my lighting configurations. At press release, the mouse can be found for around $60 USD, which is not a bad deal. However, at this price point, both of SteelSeries' most recent options of the Rival 310 and Sensei 310 are better performing options for the same price, albeit at a different size. It really is a shame because the Patriot Viper V570 Blackout Edition is an attractive looking mouse in a big package, but the sensor really holds it back from being a better mouse.

In his chair, to the V570 he flew,
For its glide and smooth tracking let him go *pew pew*.
But I heard him exclaiming, all through the house,
"If they upgraded the sensor, it'd be an adequate mouse!"
