About AIDA64 Engineer

AIDA64 Engineer has a hardware detection engine unrivaled in its class. It provides detailed information about installed software and offers diagnostic functions and support for overclocking. As it is monitoring sensors in real time, it can gather accurate voltage, temperature and fan speed readings, while its diagnostic functions help detect and prevent hardware issues. It also offers a couple of benchmarks for measuring the performance of individual hardware components or the whole system. It is compatible with all 32-bit and 64-bit Windows editions, including Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016.

Since our storage review benchmark results are presented in alphabetical order, first up on the list are results from one of our favorite benchmarking programs, AIDA64 Engineer. Just to note, AIDA64 Engineer is a full synthetic benchmark. Unlike full synthetic motor oil, this usually does not always carry a good connotation. While it is not a representation of real life performance (Such as how fast you can copy movies to your drive), it does provide valuable insight into performance variation between drives from different manufacturers. As you can see in our graphs above, the latest 7,200 RPM Seagate NAS HDD ST8000VN0002 8TB delivered top notch performance in the linear read segment; posting faster rates than virtually everyone else. It clocked in at 231.0MB/s in the beginning of the drive, 194.6MB/s in the middle, and finishing with 111.8MB/s in the end. This was a statistical tie with the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD V.5 ST8000NM0055 8TB, which was unsurprising, considering the two has pretty similar hardware under the hood. The WD Black 6TB reported 227.3MB/s, 180.1MB/s, and 102.1MB/s, in that order. This means the WD Black and Seagate NAS HDD 8TB were very close, as both are based off their respective manufacturer's enterprise grade drives. However, at 15.5ms random access time, it was no match for the WD Black's 11.45ms and Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD V.5's 11.58ms.
