Turtle Beach Atom Controller (iOS) Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

In some ways, it is difficult to find any surprises with the Turtle Beach Atom Controller for iOS. This is because we have seen the Android version before and now, we have a familiar package for this Apple variant. As such, we have the same form factor that holds your phone and easily collapses for travel. When in use, the Atom Controller is light but built well. Its shape and size make it easy to keep in your palms. Furthermore, it can keep up with longer gaming sessions, offering a 24-hour tested endurance without any issues. In performance, it succeeds in providing better inputs than virtual touchscreen buttons. One improvement is the inclusion of rubber pads that can help fill in any space and prevent the phone from scratching or rubbing with the harder surface on the back. However, the same pros mean we also have the same areas to improve upon. While its performance is good, I still found the primary buttons and D-pad to be a bit sponge-like in its travel. Those with larger hands will still find the layout to be a bit cramped at times. In addition, Turtle Beach has not made any advancements to their software to provide key mapping for virtual buttons. I still would have liked to see a bit more flexibility for thicker cases. Finally, it would have been nice to see more color variants for the iOS version. At the time of the review, the Turtle Beach Atom Controller for iOS has the same MSRP as its Android variant, but both are now at a lower $80 price. All in all, I am glad Turtle Beach has listened to our requests for an iOS variant, as users from both sides can add physical buttons for their mobile gaming.
