Amazon Extends Battery Life of Newest Kindle by 85 Percent; Adds Native PDF Reader

From DailyTech: The popular Amazon Kindle e-book reader has received several key updates helping add additional features to the product, including native PDF support and increased battery life.

Anyone interested in reading PDF files only needs them to transfer them via USB or e-mail them to the @kindle.com e-mail address. If conversion from PDF into the Kindle format is necessary, users can e-mail themselves and put "Convert" in the subject line, which will convert the attached file.

The 85% battery life improvement includes when Wi-Fi is enabled, answering a criticism from some Kindle owners that battery life drops too quickly when using Wi-Fi. Even with Wi-Fi on, the Kindle now has seven days of battery life, which is a 72-hour increase prior to the firmware update.

The original Kindle isn't able to support the firmware update, but the wireless-supported Kindle model released last February along with the latest Kindle can support the new firmware.
