White Xbox Series X Controller Leaks Online

From PC Mag: It's all change on the color front for the next-generation of games consoles. Microsoft is launching a black Xbox Series X, while the PlayStation 5 will be white. However, a white Xbox Series X has also been discovered after a photograph of the controller leaked.

As The Verge reports, a photo of a white Xbox Series X controller was posted on Reddit over the weekend by a user named Wolfy_Wizzardo. It very quickly disappeared along with the Reddit account being deleted, but not before the photo was widely shared. It was accompanied by details of where the photograph had been snapped, pointing to a party held in Washington, "hosted by the child of a Microsoft employee."

If a white controller wasn't surprise enough, Wolfy_Wizzardo said it was connected to a white version of the Xbox Series X, although it was "more squarish" and the Xbox button was larger. The console functioned and the user interface mirrored that of the Xbox One.

This leak has led to some speculating Microsoft is already planning a second color option for the new console, or this is the rumored cheaper Lockhart version of the hardware. I doubt it's either, though. The squarish look and non-launch color suggest to me this is a test version of the Xbox Series X select Microsoft employees got to take home and play with. Doing this allows Microsoft to collect some early feedback and test features, updates, and online play for the new machine in a controlled manner.
